Category: Bible StudiesDr. Kent Burreson, Professor of Systematic Theology at Concordia Seminary, will be our special Bible class leader for four weeks starting Sunday, April 14. Class will meet in the sanctuary starting at 9:45 a.m. Class topic: Resurrection hope is the bedrock for our funeral and burial practices. We bury our baptized dead in the promise that like our Lord Jesus, God will raise them and us on the Last Day to enter God’s new creation. We should care for our dying and our dead in ways that flow from this resurrection promise and what we believe and teach about the Triune God who created and redeemed our bodies. Yet, modern funerals often bear witness to things inconsistent with this Christian confession about death and resurrection. Renewing our funeral and burial practices means returning to the practices of natural burial as our Christian forebears buried their dead (think Little House on the Prairie). This four week study will introduce this approach to burial and serve as a foretaste of Dr. Beth Hoeltke’s and my book, Lay Me in God’s Good Earth, from InterVarsity Press, in print on August 20, 2024.
